Ryan Gosling Is Universal's Wolfman

Ryan Gosling Is Universal's Wolfman Ryan Gosling Tackling Universal’s ‘Wolfman’ Remake

Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who wrote for Netflix's "Orange is the New Black", penned the script, which is based on an original pitch by Gosling.

The once buried "Dark Universe", which was created to be a Marvel-style franchise with all of Universal's classic monsters crossing over into each other films, was brought back to life when Elisabeth Moss' "The Invisible Man" did very well at the box office.

Per Variety, while no director has been attached now, Corey Finley - director of two critically acclaimed films with Thoroughbreds and Bad Education - seems to be in the running.

Months after Common efficiently relaunched its monster universe with Elisabeth Moss's "The Invisible Man", the studio is pushing forward for "Wolfman" - which is being developed as a starring automobile for Ryan Gosling - to be the subsequent film based mostly on its catalog of iconic creatures.

The search for a director for the new film Wolfman is in progress.

While no additional information about the plot has been revealed yet, however, sources say that Gosling will be playing the role of an anchorman who gets infected. Gosling is also apparently set to star in an MGM adaptation of The Martian, a novel by Andy Weir. Ryan Gosling is now hooked up with MGM to star as an astronaut in an upcoming project directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The studio is now taking it one idea at a time. Universal is also working on The Invisible Woman, directed by and starring Elizabeth Banks, a Dracula movie to be directed by Karyn Kusama, the Dracula-themed Renfield from Dexter Fletcher, and the Paul Feig-directed Dark Army. So far, though, the project is in its very early stages.

The Dark Universe may be dead, or rather, it never really came alive to begin with, but Universal are determined to continue making movies featuring their stable of classic monsters.

The Invisible Man is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
