George Floyd - the man that John Boyega is referencing in his social media posts - died after he was captured on video telling a police officer kneeling on his neck, as he was pinned to the ground during an arrest, that he couldn't breathe.

Violent protests over the death Floyd rocked a Minneapolis neighbourhood for a second straight night on Wednesday as angry crowds looted stores, set fires and left a path of damage that stretched for miles.

Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota, has also called on the arresting officer to be charged for Floyd's death.

"This just burns. Seems to be a never ending cycle". "Even in the face of death this man was given zero empathy", he wrote, with the hashtags "#RIPGeorgeFloyd #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd. "#RIPGeorgeFloyd#BlackLivesMatter#JusticeForGeorgeFloyd", Boyega tweeted on May 27.

Boyega originally tweeted "I really f-ing hate racists" after posting a tribute to Floyd. There's no reason why John should have to defend his comments.

Boyega remained firm in his stance and later gave a passionate speech about racism on Instagram Live.

In the impassioned Instagram live, he then explained: "There's no way that I have the opinion that there's no other forms of racism. Of course there's other forms of racism", the Star Wars actor said in an impassioned voice on a video on Instagram.

"But a black man was just murdered in cold blood in the street Stateside again, while saying he can't breathe".

His full message reads: "So heartbreaking to hear about the continuous cycle of violence aimed at black people by racist cops".

Boyega, however, made it clear that he was talking only about white-on-black racism.

He didn't stop there, though, as he also urged racist fans to stop watching his movies because he is sick of white-on-black violence. "I am not here for the kids".

A few minutes later, he replied to a user named Dexy Dale who said he was from Nigeria and broke up with his girlfriend because "she said she hates whites".

To some Twitter users who felt like John was attacking white people and reminded him that someone's character can not be based on their skin color, the 28-year-old responded, "Where did I say exclusively white? Speak up for yourself at all times".

He continued: "It's not about career, it's not about money, because a lot of people like to bring that up".
