On Twitter, Gaga and Grande discussed the backstory of the song, including bonding over food and wine. But something held Gaga back.

In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Beats 1, the singer, 34, explained: "She was so persistent". 'Rain on Me' will feature on Gaga's upcoming sixth album Chromatica, scheduled to be out on 29 May. "And I was too ashamed to hang out with her because I didn't want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so lovely", the 34-year-old singer revealed to Zane.

"I sat with her and we talked about our lives", she told the publication. "And I was like, 'I am hiding".

The pairs' bonding experience led to "Rain on Me" being written that very night, Gaga revealed. It's catchy as hell and ready-made for a dance floor.

Grande elaborated on their newfound friendship: "Well, I find that that's what I discovered with every single woman that I've met, who has had the BDE, the Big Diva Energy thing, thrown around and the terrible rumors started about them, and the narrative has been so weirdly skewed and whatever..." "And I think maybe she assumed that it be that she came in and I was like, 'Here, just sing this and thank you so much for your time.' Right?"

The new single, which will be on Gaga's new album Chromatica, is accompanied by a futuristic dance-filled video showing the women leading dance troupes in a downpour.

Celebrating the single's release, Grande shared some moments from her experience with Gaga with fans, hailing the artist as as "incredible, unstoppable woman". Let's show them what we've got.

Grande echoed the sentiment. "['Rain on Me"] is also a metaphor for tears and for the amount of alcohol I was taking to numb myself.
