President Trump Declares Major Disaster In All 50 US States

Anti-malarial drug trial against Covid-19 to be used in US hospital Trump cuts off top coronavirus adviser over anti-malarial drug during daily briefing

According to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence, 47% of the US supply of the drug past year came from India makers.

Doctors also can prescribe it "off label" for other purposes, as many are doing now for COVID-19.

The debate is not a new one inside the coronavirus task force - and medical experts have repeatedly explained to the president that there is a risk in enthusiastically touting hydroxychloroquine in case the drug doesn't ultimately work to combat the virus.

Amid growing pressure from countries like the USA and easing supplies from China, India may lift the curbs on exports of certain active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and their formulations, including hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) that is touted to be effective to treat coronavirus disease, two government officials told Business Standard.

"I think you see the return to normalcy when we have an approved rapid testing program that can be brought to scale, Cuomo told a daily briefing on the coronavirus response". "They say taking it before the fact is good, but what do you have to lose?"

The dispute illustrated the tensions between the White House's scientific and health experts and other policymakers or advisers in the administration with no medical or research training, led by the president himself, who have been pushing the malaria drugs, chloroquine and hydroxycloroquine, for use during the coronavirus crisis. I'm not a doctor, I'm not acting as a doctor. She said she is still suffering from headaches. Despite it showing promising results, health officials have warned the public to remain cautious until larger clinical trials validate smaller studies.

President Donald Trump did not let Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, weigh in on what he thought about using hydroxycholoroquine, an anti-malaria drug, on patients with COVID-19.

"But what do I know?"

He said to Fox & Friends on Friday: "We've got to be careful that we don't make that majestic leap to assume that this is a knockout drug".

Doctors in the United States are now prescribing hydroxychloroquine, as are France and Bahrain, while India has recommended it for health care workers. "It has been used experimentally to treat certain people with COVID-19, including hospitalized patients", the FDA said.

Axios first reported on the disagreement inside the White House about the drug.

"Maybe that's a good sign", Trump told reporters at a White House briefing, referring to the drop in fatalities in NY.

A source close to the task force said Fauci is not backing off his belief that hydroxychloroquine is not a proven treatment for coronavirus. But some of the early naysayers of the drug, including the US Food and Drug Administration, have now come around to recommending its use in emergency situations.

The jump in demand for the drugs has meant in some instances that patients who rely on hydroxychloroquine for lupus or other conditions are seeing their supplies diverted for COVID-19.
