It shares the latest version of the Genesis brand's signature Crest grille first seen on the redesigned G90 model previous year. "The concept of the "beauty of white space" is a hallmark of Korean design", said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Genesis Design. And, in fact, the best thing about the cabin is the obvious lack of buttons and clutter. It's all very clean and clutter-free, with a 14.5-inch wide-screen multimedia interface sitting at the top-centre of the dash.

The dashboard's centrepiece is a 36.8cm split-screen infotainment system that features a handwriting recognition input system as well as augmented reality navigation that places virtual driving guidelines over actual driving images to allow drivers to recognise roads.

What do you think of this new luxury SUV? Oh, and before moving on, take a look at the absolutely stunning brown and green motif seen here, complete with padded seams.

As you would expect in a luxury SUV, the interior has all kinds of amenities created to reduce driver and passenger stress.

Measuring up with dimensions similar to the BMW X5, the GV80 is hunting a slice of the luxury SUV market and will compete with rivals that include the LexusRX, the German trio of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and Audi Q7, as well as other Euros such as the Jaguar F-Pace and Volvo XC 90.

Hyundai Motor plans to introduce the GV80 in the USA, the world's most important automobile market, in the summer of 2020. However, a couple of turbocharged engines are in sight, including a 2.5-liter in-line four and a Genesis-specific 3.5-liter V6.

In terms of powertrain, the Genesis GV80 is available with a 278 PS/600 Nm 3.0 litre six-cylinder diesel engine, while the United States market gets a choice of two turbo petrol engines. Both engines will be coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is riding on an all-new rear-wheel-drive platform which Genesis claims will underpin future Genesis vehicles, particularly the next-gen G80 sedan.

Inside, the GV80 retains the high-line detailing seen on its premium sedans, such as the G90 andG80, including diamond-quilted leather seating. The all-wheel drive system features Multi-Terrain Control with Sand, mud and snow modes while the electronically controlled Limited Slip Differential at the rear axle makes the life far easier on tough surface conditions.

Driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control which will actually slow the vehicle for fixed speed cameras in Korea (Australia is less likely to get this feature), lane keep assist keeps the auto centred in its lane, automatic lane changes can be initiated with a flick of the indicator and a driver fatigue warning system actually monitors the driver's level of attention with a camera. There'll be smart cruise control with machine learning (SCC-ML), that promises to learn from how each individual drives, and tweak its assistance to match their style. (Note: it is not clear if SCC-ML technology will be available in cars with U.S. specifications). But the wait is finally over, and Genesis will officially roll out its GV80 in a phased manner starting with its home market - South Korea.
