Sporting Lisbon are considering the possibility of signing Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira on loan as part of the deal that would see Bruno Fernandes move to Old Trafford.

On Monday, Sky Sports News reported that Fernandes wants to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad.

According to the Telegraph, the Premier League giants have now held talks with the Sporting hierarchy over a proposed deal for Fernandes, with the player "keen" on the idea of a new challenge in English football.

The rumours have intensified over the past 24 hours with The Sun citing Italian journalist Nicolo Schira as claiming that Manchester United have now agreed personal terms with Fernandes over a four-and-a-half-year contract worth around £5.1m [€6m] per season.

Newspaper A Bola report that United offered Sporting their fourth-choice goalkeeper Joel Pereira, defender Marcos Rojo and playmaker Angel Gomes - but none of them interested the Portuguese club. "Tomorrow, Manchester United will work to reach agreement with Sporting and close the deal".

The Portuguese outlet suggests that United are ready to meet Sporting's £65m asking price by agreeing to pay £55m up front with a further £10m coming in additional add-ons.

But that would be beefed up by including a player in the deal, with Brazilian midfielder Pereira, who stands to be replaced in the United team by Fernandes, the latest to be offered in a loan deal.

Manchester United are now fifth in the league standings with a five-point deficit to Chelsea, who are occupying the final Champions League spot for next season.
