According to CBS's formal information of this show, it's " a deep diving to the untold private tale of Clarice Starling as she comes back into the industry to go after serial murderers and intimate predators while navigating the large stakes governmental realm of Washington, D.C". CBS has put it in a straight-to-series order for a show that will follow The Silence of the Lambs' Clarice Starling. She's asked by Jack Crawford to help out with a case by interviewing the notorious cannibal and serial killer, Hannibal Lecter.

Clarice will focus entirely on the personal story of Starling; a role originated by Jodie Foster. But his is the story we need today: his fight, his resistance, his victory. Her time is now, and always, ' they added. The new CBS drama will be a period drama and a sequel to Silence of the Lambs.

Alex Kurtzman (Lost) and Jenny Lumet (Star Trek: Discovery) wrote the pilot script and will executive produce. Jodie Foster earned Best Actress at the 64th Academy Awards when she portrayed Clarice in 1991. The two are now working on a project called The Man Who Fell to Earth, which will premiere on CBS All Access.

A pilot for Clarice will be filmed, but its thought that the network already want the show to become a series and a writer's room has already been established. The role of Clarice Starling was taken over by Julianne Moore in Ridley Scott's 2001 sequel Hannibal, and should the Hannibal tv series have continued producer Bryan Fuller wanted to cast Ellen Page as Starling.

This isn't the first time a series hinged on the hardworking Federal Bureau of Investigation officer Clarice Starling has been planned however, back in 2012 a series created by MGM and Lifetime was planned but failed to go ahead. There's the Ellen Page way, which I think would be fantastic and more kind of in line with the Clarice that we all know. Heather Kadin of Secret Hideout and will also serve as executive producers.

Before the movie came along, the novel The Silence of the Lambs told the story of Starling. And, of course, there was NBC's Hannibal, which aired for three seasons before getting cancelled.
