Facebook starts trying to hide the number of reactions in posts

Facebook confirmed it is dabbling with no longer making a public display of how many “likes” are racked up by posts Facebook confirmed it is dabbling with no longer making a public display of how many “likes” are racked up by posts

Facebook is looking at restricting the display of "likes" that appear below posts.

This is revealed by Jane Manchun Wong, a Twitter user known for discovering software tests on these platforms, which now ensures that Mark Zuckerberg's is beginning to experiment with this option.

Long before the Cambridge Analytica issue, Facebook was known for being the social media site that allows people to show their "like" for something, while also allowing users to see the number of "likes" they receive from others.

"I observed that Facebook has recently begun prototyping this hidden like/reaction count feature in their Android app by reverse-engineering the app and playing with the code underneath", wrote Wong.

The mental health and stress that can cause dependence on the number of likes, comparisons with other people and the little value that, in general, brings this number when assessing the content of a person are some of the reasons behind this decision.

Facebook may be thinking about scrapping or hiding users' Like counts from view with testing on a "like-less" prototype reportedly ongoing. The photo-sharing app received positive reviews from users who were part of the test and it has reportedly been expanded to several more countries. The more time users spend on social media, the BICO, noted, the more damaging it could be for their wellbeing.

"Currently, with this unreleased feature, the like/reaction count is hidden from anyone other than the creator of the post, just like how it works on Instagram".

The social media giant is considering a test to hide "likes" from news feed posts. However, the social network has not officially started testing as of yet. "We hope to learn whether this change can help people focus less on likes and more on telling their story".
