De Lange was born in Cape Town, grew up playing in South Africa and moved to Northamptonshire for two seasons before representing Scotland. He took 24 wickets in his worldwide career with a best figure of 5/60 against Zimbabwe in Edinburgh in June 2017, which set up Scotland's memorable first one-day global win against a Full Member.

He featured in five matches after that, the last of which was in November that year against Papua New Guinea in Dubai, before being sidelined for health reasons which were not made public at the time.

The South African-born all-rounder was diagnosed with a brain tumour in the early part of past year, but the news was only made public in October.

Allan Donald called De Lange a "warrior", writing: "Gutted to here that Con De Lange has passed away this morning".

De Lange was selected as the vice-captain of the Scotland T20I global for the tournament to be played in the United Arab Emirates in January 2017.

"But above all, we will remember Con the man - competitive, committed and the ultimate team player, someone with unshakeable principles and integrity".

Tributes poured in from his former team-mates and friends on Twitter.

De Lange was described as one of the country's top global players of recent years, with Cricket Scotland also praising him as a "great servant" at club and regional level. "He will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered by many throughout the world of cricket".

'One of the greatest blokes you will ever meet.

De Lange needed to experience an operation, chemotherapy and radiation treatment in his battle against the ailment.

His diagnosis with brain cancer came as a shock to those in the cricketing world, but by all accounts the all-rounder fought hard to against the disease. Thoughts and prayers go out to the De Lange family.

"Everyone at NCCC sends sincerest condolences to his family and friends at his hugely sad time". "My thoughts are with his family, RIP Con".
