When is the Champions League group stage draw and match dates?

Few teams will fancy taking on the Reds ahead of the draw which will be held today (30/8) at 5pm.

Title holder Real Madrid and other European powers could be paired against some fresh faces in the Champions League draw on Thursday.

Last season's beaten finalists were handed a very favourable group past year, which they topped ahead of Sevilla, Spartak Moscow and Maribor, and will be hoping for more of the same this time around.

Jurgen Klopp's men could now be drawn in a nightmare "group of death" along with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan while Real Madrid, Napoli and Galatasaray is also a possibility.

Manchester City now stand as favourites to win the tournament come June, at 5/1. Had the Greek side progressed, Liverpool would have been assigned to a more favourable place in pot two of the draw.

Manchester City are in pot one along with defending champions Real Madrid, Europa League winners Atletico Madrid and respective European league winners Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Pot three: Liverpool, Schalke, Lyon, Monaco, Ajax, CSKA Moscow, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia. There are a few banana skins in Pot 4, but AEK Athens, as well as Viktoria Plzen, should be easy enough to overcome.

Here is a look at the worst possible draw Liverpool could end up with.

But what's the best case scenario for the Red Devils?

There is one team in Pot 1 that every side will want to draw: Lokomotiv Moscow.

MADRID, SPAIN - DECEMBER 06: Borussia Dortmund Midfielder Christian Pulisic (C) in action during the Europe Champions League 2017-18 match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on 06 December 2017 in Madrid Spain.

Milos Degenek scored the goal to send Red Star into the Champions League group stage.

Pot three actually has plenty of decent clubs and the weakest sides are probably those qualifying from the Eredivisie, and it's only fair to pick Ajax after their second place finish.
