Trump administration officials attended the opening ceremony of the controversial new USA embassy in Jerusalem on Monday - and invited several extreme Religious Right figures to play a major role in the events.

The White Home invited Jeffress to take part within the opening of the embassy after it was moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an invite that was met with widespread criticism. The relocation of the embassy marks a virtually three decade departure from US global coverage and has been largely regarded by evangelical Christians as a significant victory for the Trump administration.

"We thank you, O Lord, for President Donald Trump's courage in acknowledging to the world a truth that was established 3,000 years ago - that Jerusalem is and always shall be the eternal capital of the Jewish people", Hagee said.

It also emerged that pastor John Hagee, the right-wing founder of Christians United for Israel, will deliver the benediction at the ceremony, a spokesman for his organisation confirmed to CNN.
