The Samsung Gear VR (a joint development with Oculus) sells for $129 and requires a high-end (costly) Samsung smartphone that is dedicated to tasks other than VR.

The higher-end Oculus Rift-which, unlike the Go, requires a computer to operate-is also seeing a price cut.

Mr Zuckerberg shared the story of Dorothy Howard, an elderly woman who can't travel because of her health, who now uses VR to go on a holiday anywhere in the world. The Oculus Go will be Oculus and Facebook's first ever VR headset that does not need to be tethered to a PC or a smartphone to function. It also includes built-in speakers that provide spatial audio, along with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Dash runs as an overlay inside the user's current VR experience, so they'll be able to quickly switch from one app to the next, open the library, connect with friends, and even use the rest of their PC without any extra steps. No word yet on price as its still early days, but expect something close to the hefty $599/£599 of the original Rift. Instead, Oculus said that "the best" of the platform would be coming to Go on launch day. It will also make mainstream VR more accessible to millions of people. We imagine it probably will, but it's not clear if the price cut will be as substantial or available as soon as the U.S. one. The price drop comes into immediate effect.

The company promises that the Oculus Rift for Business bundle will improve productivity by allowing for new types of training and teleconferencing.

Facebook-owned Oculus is one of the two giants in VR right now, alongside HTC with its Vive headset. "You can do work together".

But VR so far has been embraced mostly by video game lovers, despite Facebook's efforts to bring the technology into the mainstream since buying Oculus for $2 billion three years ago.

It's hard to say how much you'll notice the moments it doesn't track-after all, your hands would be nearly behind you at that point. Oh, and Facebook is planning on letting your friends hang out in your Home as well.

Recent discounts lowered the Rift's price to $399 at various times during the summer, a markdown Oculus now says will be permanent.
