Employees at Bullitt Co. Amazon Fulfillment Center test positive for COVID-19 Amazon com : Temporarily Closes Warehouse in Kentucky After Workers Test Positive for Covid-19

Amazon employees have tested positive at at least eight of its warehouse, according to The Washington Post and NPR.

"We are supporting the individual who is now in quarantine", Amazon said in a statement after closing its NY delivery station. On the same day, local media outlets reported three confirmed cases at an Amazon warehouse in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, which has temporarily shut down.

Warehouse workers at two separate locations in New York City-Staten Island and Queens-tested positive. This comes in light of a steady escalation of coronavirus cases in U.S., even as the country's government continues to put large sections of the country in lockdown and announces economic measures to soften the blow on the economy. "We are following guidelines from local officials and are taking extreme measures to ensure the safety of employees at our site".

Athena, a workers' rights advocacy group, said workers at Amazon's NY warehouse had to continue working while the facility was being cleaned after the case there was confirmed.

Amazon said it will hire 100,000 new workers for warehouses and delivery services to meet surging demand as millions of Americans adhere to stay-at-home orders and attempt to stock up on key household products such as toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer. The firm has also begun staggering shift times, spreading out break-room tables and asking drivers to keep their distance from customers when delivering orders.

The Shepherdsville facility, which employs roughly 1,000 workers, is at least the second USA warehouse to have temporarily closed in recent days after employees contracted the virus.

This puts increasing pressure on Amazon workers themselves, some of whom have accused the company of "recklessly endangering" employees by not granting them paid time off.

Besides the USA, even Amazon warehouse workers in Italy and Spain have also tested positive.

This month, Amazon said all quarantined employees would receive a two-week salary and Amazon contractors who tested positive for the virus could ask for up to two weeks of salary from a $ 25 million relief fund set up by the 'business. However, Amazon has made every worker at the facility aware of the confirmed coronavirus case. More than 108,000 people have recovered from this illness.
