Trump says Modi expects massive crowds during India visit

The US President might also attend the cultural show named ‘Mohabbat – The Taj’ which will be held at Kalakruti auditorium near the monument Trump says Modi expects massive crowds during India visit

Trump and his wife Melania are due to visit India and hold meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a high-profile two-day trip from February 24.

Nikita Kumar, another Indian stuck in green card backlog says, "We understand that this visit is primarily centered around trade deals, but somewhere the Indian community that is contributing immensely to the American economy feels the need to be represented".

President Donald Trump said the United States and India were working on a major trade deal, but he was not sure if it would be completed before the USA presidential election in November.

Ashok Brahmbhatt, secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association, which owns the stadium set to be opened by Trump, said it would also spend tens of millions of rupees during the event.

Trump made the comment as he complained about trade relations between Washington D.C. and New Delhi.

With a capacity for 110,000 spectators, the Motera Stadium will dislodge the Melbourne Cricket Ground as the world's largest cricket stadium.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with India, Trump, who adheres to the "America First" policy, said, "We're not treated very well by India". A BCCI official said that he hoped for an inauguration ceremony during Trump's visit. "I happen to like Prime Minister Modi a lot", Trump said.

"We have never announced that US President Donald Trump was to inaugurate the stadium".

A hastily built 1,640-foot brick wall in front of a slum in the Gujarat state has stoked tensions ahead of Trump's arrival, with critics saying it is meant to hide the area called home by more than 2,000 people.

Trump may also visit the famous Taj Mahal monument in the city of Agra, and all leave for police officers in that city has been cancelled, according to a document seen by Reuters.

The event will be along the lines of a "Howdy Modi" rally attended by Modi and the president in Houston last September.

Municipal authorities in Ahmedabad have been criticised for serving eviction notices to slum-dwellers and erecting a 400-metre wall along Trump's route to the stadium. We're doing a very big trade deal with India.

India responded with higher tariffs on agricultural goods and restrictions on US medical devices, prompting the U.S.to retaliate by removing India from a decades-old preferential trade program.

"The Trump administration has been needlessly combative with India on trade and investment issues, complicating an already hard dimension of bilateral relationship".

"We like Donald Trump because he openly spoke about India's feelings", Hindu Sena leader Vishnu Gupta told Reuters.
