President Donald Trump is calling for a 12% increase in NASA's budget for 2021, a bump largely targeted at transforming the administration's goal of landing people on the lunar surface by 2024 from ambitious dream to tangible reality. In a simple media advisory, NASA announced that it is searching for more Artemis generation astronauts and that applications will be open from March 2 to 31.

The basic requirements to be a NASA astronaut is to have U.S. citizenship and a master's degree in a STEM field including engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science, or mathematics, from an accredited institution.

Applicants who meet the requirements will be included in the candidacy program by NASA.

"For the bunch of profoundly gifted ladies and men, we will contract to join our different space traveler corps, and it's a fantastic time in human spaceflight to be a space explorer".

NASA is celebrating its twentieth year of continuous presence on board the International Space Station in low Earth circle this year, and they're very soon sending the first woman and then a man to the moon by 2024.

And, for the first time ever, candidates will be asked to complete a two-hour online test.

350 people have been selected by NASA since the 1960s to train as astronaut candidates for arduous missions in the name of space exploration.

Right now, there are 48 astronauts in the active astronaut corps.

Space missions do not simply have a mere scientific or discovery value of what surrounds us, but they have value above all in the technological sector. The request would boost the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's budget by 12 percent for the fiscal year that starts October 1, with almost half of the funds going toward the "Moon to Mars" program, which includes the development of lunar landers, robotic rovers, heavy-lift rockets, and new spacesuits. Gaining new experiences on and around the Moon will prepare NASA to send the first humans to Mars in the mid-2030s. "After returning humans to the Moon in 2024, NASA plans to establish sustainable lunar exploration by 2028".

"With the increased interest level that we experienced in our previous application period, we made the decision to move several assessments to the beginning of the process as a pilot, to help ensure that the applications that are evaluated by the Astronaut Rating Panel best reflect the requirements of the position", NASA's astronaut selection website explained.

Fresh-faced astronauts could find themselves living and working 250 miles from Earth aboard the ISS.
