It's also important to mention that the World Health Organization said that preliminary epidemiological investigations showed that most of the cases were found in people who either worked at the market or went there often.

"The genetic sequence will be of great importance for other countries to use in developing specific diagnostic kits".

The proportion of severe cases is similar to that among common pneumonia cases, Wang said.

The outbreak in Wuhan of a mysterious form of viral pneumonia was first reported in late December, with patients suffering high fevers and breathing difficulties.

It remains unclear how the virus is transmitted, Miravite said, adding that no cases of human-to-human transmission have been confirmed as of yet.

Initial reports about the virus had raised fears that SARS was back, prompting authorities to punish eight people for posting false information online. Seven patients are still in critical condition, six have been discharged from the hospital. Experts recalled the situation with the SARS epidemic, which in the early 2000s, it killed more than three hundred people in China.

Genetic studies of virus material collected from patients indicated that 41 people had been infected with the novel coronavirus, instead of the 59 previously counted, it said Sunday.

While no infection has been recorded to date in Vietnam, Vietnamese health authorities have begun to check those coming in from China through the border gates. All 739 close contacts, including 419 medical staff, have undergone medical observation and no related cases have been found.

The WHO revealed that the virus did not spread more and the seafood market in Wuhan which is an important domestic and worldwide transport hub is closed at the moment.

Regarding early prospects for testing, Menachery noted that the nucleocapsid protein for coronaviruses is highly conserved across coronavirus families, and the N protein of nCoV is about 90% conserved with the SARS N protein.

The WHO has advised against the implementation of travel or trade restrictions on China based on the information available on the incident.

Scientists have speculated that a novel coronavirus might have caused the Wuhan outbreak as officials there ruled out other coronaviruses - including SARS and MERS-CoV - as well as influenza, avian influenza and adenovirus. Public health officials are continuing to track down other people who may have come into contact with the pathogen.
