And the 16-time Grand Slam victor will take on Federer on either Tuesday or Thursday, dependent on how the Swiss star fares against Dominic Thiem tonight.

Djokovic branded Thiem's performance "phenomenal": "It's a round-robin system, so I'm still in the tournament".

When is Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer on and what time does it start? . Failing to build on his ATP Finals win in Grand Slam events, the young prodigy many thought would break his major duck in 2019 has done nothing of the sort, instead enduring quarrels within his own camp and struggling to make the ATP Finals in any sort of form.

"It's unusual to lose and then come back to play again, but I did it previous year, so I have some experience", Federer said. He did not concede a single break point in the entire match.

Thiem improved to 2-0 after beating Federer on Sunday, while Berrettini was eliminated after a second straight loss.

Thiem responded to losing a high-quality opening set in stunning fashion, ripping winners all over the blue court to take the second set and move a break ahead in the decider.

Federer was asked after his win against Berrettini whether his defeat to Djokovic at Wimbledon had left emotional or mental scars.

Nadal is locked in a battle with Novak Djokovic to finish as the year-end number one but was not serving flat out in practice last week due to an abdominal strain that forced him to pull out of the Paris Masters at the semi-final stage.

Neither player managed to force another break and the set went to a tie-break, which Djokovic, a five-time ATP Finals champion, edged 7-5. "I was [3/0], serve, 4/1 up, 5/4, you know, maybe should have played a little more aggressive in those moments, but credit to him", Djokovic, who is a five-time ATP Finals victor, added.

Federer broke Berrettini to open the second set, but had to overcome a slight wobble at 4-3. "We'll find out", Federer replied, "but I think it's all flushed away from my side".

He racked up 51 winners, compared to 28 for Djokovic, but also hit 51 unforced errors in a fearless display of attacking tennis in what turned into the best match of the tournament so far.

Djokovic applied the thumb-screws with a ruthless love service game, and now Thiem had to serve to save the match.

Roger Federer must be mindful of Matteo Berrettini's big serve if he is to get his ATP Finals campaign back on track.

In the earlier round-robin match in Group Andre Agassi, sixth seed Tsitsipas beat Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, admitting their spiky relationship had made his job tougher.

In a captivating first set the players swapped a break apiece but Djokovic, a five-time ATP Finals champion, edged the tie-break.
