Because of her family's history, Roberts-born Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1943, but known as "Cokie" since childhood because her brother couldn't pronounce Corinne-never questioned that she would get into politics in some capacity. She will be greatly missed.

"Cokie Roberts will be dearly missed", said ABC News President James Goldston, as reported by ABC News. She previously was part of local newsrooms at WNEW-TV in New York City and KNBC-TV in Los Angeles.

She was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and was listed one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting by the American Women in Radio and Television.

Four U.S. presidents paid their respects to ABC News' longtime correspondent Cokie Roberts today, but only one also whined about the late reporter's treatment of him. By the 1980s she'd risen to national prominence as a journalist for NPR and ABC News.

Sajet remembers first meeting Roberts many years ago during her tenure as the president of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

ABC World News Tonight anchor David Muir tweeted, "You made us all better". "She knew what was important and she communicated that", Stephanopoulos said.

Mother Jones' editor-in-chief Clara Jeffery said Roberts "broke down barriers for women journalists and had a remarkable life". "But I've sort of assuaged my guilt by writing about it and feeling like I'm educating people about the government and how to be good voters and good citizens", Roberts told The Washington Post in March.

Our dear friend and colleague Cokie Roberts passed away this morning in Washington, surrounded by her family and closest friends.

Cokie Roberts, the daughter of politicians who grew up to cover the family business in Washington for ABC News and NPR over several decades, died Tuesday in Washington of complications from breast cancer. With Trump on the phone, she described reports of racist slurs that children were using against their classmates in his name, then she asked, "Are you proud of that?"

Roberts started her radio career at CBS and in 1978 began working for NPR covering Capitol Hill, where she continued to work as a political commentator until her death.

'She is also survived by friendships and by causes that she put her time, resources and energy into that are too numerous to count. She attended Wellesley College, and met her future husband at a conference for student leaders. They had two children, Lee and Rebecca, and six grandchildren, whom she cherished.
