Branding expert Bruce Turkel and Simon Constable of The Wall Street Journal on Olive Garden selling 1,000 never ending pasta passes for $100.

The Lifetime Pasta Passes will guarantee access to unlimited pasta, salad and breadsticks for life.

"Olive Garden has always been known for Italian Generosity and making everyone feel like family, which is why we introduced our Pasta Pass five years ago", said Jennifer Arguello, executive vice president of marketing for Olive Garden, in a news release. Visit pastapass.com for more information.

The company will sell the passes starting at 2 p.m. August 15.

Carb lovers, Olive Garden has the deal of a lifetime for you. Those who get the pass get nine weeks of unlimited servings of pastas, sauces and toppings from the restaurant's Never Ending Pasta Bowl menu.

24,000 passes are available this year, and the first 50 customers who complete their pasta pass transaction will be eligible to upgrade to the lifetime deal for an additional $400.

Beginning Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. In the past, the passes have sold out within minutes of going on sale.

It's also offering its annual $100 "Never Ending Pasta Pass" that lets customers eat what they want for nine weeks, up from eight weeks previous year. The pasta pass can not be shared with another person. And from there, the value grows exponentially: Olive Garden suggests that if you used the pass to order a bowl a day for the next 60 years, the cost per bowl would be less than three cents - and that's not adjusting for inflation.

Less-committed gluten-gluttons can purchase one of the 24,000 Annual Pasta Passes, which entitles you to unlimited pasta over the course of nine weeks in the fall, at $100 plus tax. Still, if you just dropped into Olive Garden once a month, the pass will still have paid for itself in less than four years - and let's be honest: If you had that pass, you'd definitely have lunch at Olive Garden a lot more often.
