Canadian Police reveal how teen murder suspects died

Manaigre says the area of the search extended to where a burned-out vehicle the pair travelled in was dumped, about eight kilometres from where the bodies were found.

RCMP in British Columbia are set to make an announcement on Monday regarding the autopsies of the two B.C. homicide suspects.

Investigators are now analyzing all items located in Manitoba in an attempt to get more clarity on Dyck, Fowler and Deese's deaths.

The pair accused of murdering Australian man Lucas Fowler, 23, his American girlfriend Chynna Deese, 24, and botanist Leonard Dyck, died by apparent suicide in remote Canadian bush.

The two teens were wanted in three northern B.C. deaths and were the subjects of a nation-wide manhunt that spanned more than two weeks and four provinces.

They were also suspects in the fatal shootings of Australian Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese of Charlotte, North Carolina, whose bodies were found July 15 along the Alaska Highway about 500 kilometres from where Dyck was killed.

Days later, a pickup truck connected to the suspects was discovered burning beside the road, and the body of 64-year-old Leonard Dyck was located a mile away, said a release.

Deese's brother, British Deese, said the family needed time to process the news that the suspects' bodies were apparently found.

The notice was posted on August 8, the day after Manitoba RCMP announced they were confident they found the bodies of McLeod and Schmegelsky near the shoreline of the Nelson River, only about a kilometre away from items connected to the fugitives and the boat.

Police declined to release a cause of death, saying that "the manner in which he died is not important at this point". Their next of kin have been notified and they have been offered support.

Schmegelsky's father, Alan Schmegelsky, said earlier that he expected the nationwide manhunt to end in the death of his son, who he said was on "a suicide mission". "There is significant evidence that links both crime scenes together".

McLeod and Schmegelsky were wanted in the killings of a young tourist couple and a Vancouver man. Later, they said they'd separately found "items directly linked to the suspects" that same day on the shoreline.

Bodies were found on the Nelson River near Gillam, Man. last week, ending the weeks-long search for Port Alberni teens Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, and Kam McLeod, 19.

The bodies of the suspects were found near Gillam, Manitoba - more than 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) from northern British Columbia.

The RCMP say the next step is assessing all the items found throughout the investigation to try and understand what happened to the three victims.
