Marais Erasmus, Kumar Dharmasena Named On-Field Umpires For The Final

Jason Roy World Cup 2019: Jason Roy fined 30% of his match fee for showing dissent towards umpire

England batsman Jason Roy could face disciplinary action after his blistering innings in Thursday's World Cup semi-final against Australia came to a controversial end at Edgbaston.

Jason Roy credits "a kick up the arse" on England's last visit to Lord's for giving them the boost they needed to reach the World Cup final in peak form.

Sri Lanka's Kumar Dharmasena and Marias Erasmus of South Africa were Friday appointed as the on-field umpires for the World Cup final between hosts England and New Zealand at the iconic Lord's on Sunday.

Roy, who had struck a magnificent 85 in 65 balls, was given out caught behind off Pat Cummins, although television replays showed the ball had not touched his bat or glove as he attempted a pull shot.

Nevertheless, Dharmasena confusingly and incorrectly signalled for a review, with Australia pointing out the official's mistake. He will be available to play for England in the finals against New Zealand.

Unfortunately for Roy and England, the side was out of reviews after his opening partner Jonny Bairstow had wasted one on a routine LBW decision earlier, leaving Roy incensed as he walked off the field.

While Roy was penalised for descent, the umpire has been rewarded by the ICC with an honour to officiate in the final at Lord's.

Roy, who admitted the offence, was fined 30 percent of his match fee for breaching that section of the International Cricket Council's code of conduct that prohibits showing dissent at an umpire's decision.

Dharmasena has won the ICC's Umpire of the Year award on two occasions - in 2012 and 2018. Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle will be the match referee for the summit clash.

Interestingly, Aleem Dar has been made the fourth umpire in the final despite the grave error by Dharmasena.
