"Our telecommunication provider continues to work to resolve their incident that is impacting our services", the CBA tweeted. They have advised customers that they can still use NetBank and the CommBank app as usual.

It's taken hours but telco giant Telstra has managed to put most bank and retail customers caught out at ATMs and checkouts back online after an outage.

"We are now investigating an issue affecting services, including Eftpos and access to ATMs, for a number of enterprise customers nationally", he said.

As of a short while ago, Telstra was still investigating, with a cause of the problem unknown, according to ABC News.

The same issue hit St George Bank and Westpac.

Telstra has also tweeted that it is looking into the issue, apologising to those impacted.

Westpac said some Sydney machines and branches were "non-operational", but customers on Facebook claimed they were experiencing issues in Melbourne and Brisbane also.

"We're sorry for any issues caused and will provide an update when we know more".

"Our teams are communicating with external providers on when services will be restored & we'll keep you updated".

Westpac, ANZ and NAB have all confirmed that their EFTPOS terminals may be impacted as well.

The problems at this stage do not appear to be affecting all customers, with a Sydney CBD fringe Hicaps user telling iTnews services were working normally.

'EFT payments over $100 & Agency payments over $200, Bank@Post withdrawals, deposits and balance enquiries are affected, ' it said. We are continuing to monitor all services as this happens.

"The cause of the problem is under urgent investigation and we are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority".

Business Insider Australia has contacted the bank for more information.

Caltex said its EFTPOS payments were being affected; Woolworths said electronic payments were being disrupted; while Australia Post said EFTPOS payments over $100 and other banking services were on the fritz, while withdrawals under $100 and all deposits were still working.

We are aware of an issue affecting some of our services. Could I please get some answers?
