Momo Challenge: Two Horror Movies Based On Viral Hoax Are Coming

Momo Challenge movies have been announced Remember Momo? Orion Pictures Adapting Viral Hoax As A Horror Film
Hannah Rogers | 11 July, 2019, 22:10

Now, Orion Pictures has officially picked up another movie about the film and announced a bit about the crew behind it. As meme history will tell you, it was a viral game shared through messaging services like WhatsApp that supposedly encourages kids to hurt themselves and even commit suicide, all at the behest of a terrifying bird-faced woman (seen above) who demands more violence and horror. No word yet if the sculpture will be incorporated into the lore of the film, or if Aisawa will be involved in production, but we have to imagine you can't make a Momo movie without that iconic face ingrained in the marketing.

Lee can also be a producer on the upcoming "It: Chapter 2".

Thankfully, the whole challenge was a hoax and Momo was actually a sculpture created by Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso.

The film has no release date as of yet.

But unbeknownst to its creator, pictures of his artwork from the gallery display posted online had been cropped and used to propagate the Momo Challenge, which has been likened to the "Blue Whale Challenge", a similarly unsubstantiated social media phenomenon dating from 2016 asking participants to engage in increasingly harmful conduct.

The Momo Challenge went viral late past year and became an alarming trend which encouraged children to harm themselves.

Deadline first reported the information of the Momo Problem film.

This year, the Momo Challenge made all sorts of headlines when Kim Kardashian called attention to the fact hoaxers had spliced images of Momo into kid friendly content like clips from the animated series Peppa Pig or Fortnite gaming videos.

While the original sculpture of Aiso's ubume was thrown out a year ago after being damaged beyond fix, there will still be an opportunity to see an exact replica. The sculpture will be displayed once again in Ginza's Vanilla Gallery on September 13 as part of his Grudge Girls Collection.

Like I said, if anyone can pulls this off, it's Lee, who has good taste in writers and filmmakers.
