The 16-year-old turned down a professional contract with the Midlands club and was also on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona were joined in their interest in the 16-year-old by PSG and RB Leipzig, but confirmed his signing following his departure from The Hawthorns.

"Next season he will be part of Barca's Under-19 squad", Barcelona said in a statement on Thursday.

The Spanish club say Barry "is considered one of the best young players in English football" and "has passed the relevant medical tests".

He also won the golden boot in November at the Val-de-Marne tournament which England Under-16s won.

He comes with worldwide experience despite his age and will no doubt flourish in Spain to further enhance his growing reputation.

Barcelona will have to pay at least €130,000 to West Brom in training compensation for Barry, per FIFA's regulations, although sources have indicated to ESPN FC they are willing to pay more as a goodwill gesture.

Should he continue his rapid rise he could soon find himself in the next few years playing alongside the "great" Lionel Messi which would be an unbelievable feat for the youngster who hails from Birmingham.
