The decision to give Vettel a five-second penalty in Montreal, for going off track and returning in an unsafe manner while defending the lead from Lewis Hamilton, triggered a controversy that rumbles on.
In a statement handed out shortly after Friday's second practice session for the French GP, the Canadian Grand Prix stewards, who were reconvened in France, said there were "no significant or new elements" presented.
"Nonetheless the battle within us, it feels in a lot of races it has been down to a tenth or a tenth-and-a-half between Valtteri and I so I still have my work cut out and still have to perform and deliver".
"We have auto parks with lines and kerbs on it".
"Coming from the last race it is not always easy, like when you hear boos for example, but that is part of the game and if anything it spurs me on".
"Naturally for me with my team I would be having them focus mostly on trying to improve the auto".
Ferrari are "unhappy and disappointed" after failing in an attempt to overturn a penalty that denied Sebastian Vettel victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. As he rejoined he forced Hamilton to take avoiding action as he passed him at the first chicane.
They will put forward their case for the controversial punishment to be re-opened, citing the emergence of new evidence.
"Anyways, it is what it is and as I said there are too many paragraphs but what do you change?"
But, after assessing Ferrari's submissions, the stewards stuck by their original decision and Vettel's second place behind Hamilton in Canada stands as published.
"There is a rule that I don't think should be there, which is a bit too drastic and a bit too black and white and doesn't interpret well the rules of racing, that is race hard and enjoy", said McLaren's Carlos Sainz. At least I know I'm not in trouble again.
"Some laps it felt good and others it didn't".
"We are very respectful of the FIA processes and will be meeting with the stewards so I think we can probably have these discussions next weekend", said Mekies, who worked for the governing body before joining Ferrari in September.
