So far the disease has killed three people, all relatives who had traveled back from the DRC after nursing an Ebola-infected patient there.

The WHO has been widely criticised for holding off on declaring the outbreak a PHEIC and effectively pulling the emergency chord to prompt worldwide action.

A PHEIC is defined by the IHR as "an extraordinary event which is determined to constitute a public health risk to other states through the global spread of disease and to potentially require a coordinated worldwide response".

"It was the view of the committee that the outbreak is a health emergency in DRC and the region, but does not meet the criteria for a public health emergency of worldwide concern", the United Nations health agency's expert committee said in a statement.

At the Busia border, residents have been advised to avoid shaking hands.

Comparet stressed that she supported the IHR's "rigorous assessment", but said global attention must continue, given the cross-border spread of the outbreak.

President Yoweri Museveni says Government of Uganda is containing Ebola just like it has been able to control terrorism over the years.

The outcome of the last epidemic shows the urgency of preventative action.

The outbreak is very much active in DRC and became unpredictable.

The current outbreak is the second worst worldwide since West Africa's Ebola outbreak between 2014-16. "Back then, the world collectively realised the scale of the situation and came together, this time it nearly feels like it's optional".

Announcing the news through a statement, the ministry of health added that the woman also tested negative for any Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers.

But Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony said there was no cause for alarm and assured residents the county health department was fully alert.

As of yesterday, a total of 135,395 people in the DRC and neighboring countries had been vaccinated with Merck's vaccine.

"The result of the tests carried out by KEMRI laboratories on blood samples from the 36-year-old lady who is now admitted in the isolation unit at Kericho County Referral Hospital have been confirmed negative for EVD and other Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers", Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki stated.

The two victims were part of a Congolese-Ugandan family who crossed over into Uganda, marking the first time that Ebola cases have appeared outside of Congo since the outbreak began.

Doctor Doreen Mulenga who happens to a representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Uganda passed the following statement: "as our considerations are with the family of the young boy who died, this is an terrible reminder that Ebola's one cases are equivalent to one too many".
