Democrats push new strategy for enforcing Russian Federation subpoenas

The vote, along with two hearings this week on the Mueller report, is partly created to mollify anxious Democrats who have tried to pressure House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings immediately. Watch live in the player above.

In tweets, Trump also took aim at House Democrats for continuing to focus on the report by Mueller that details findings of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election as well as possible episodes of obstruction of the probe by Trump.

"I am pleased to announce that the Department of Justice has agreed to begin complying with our committee's subpoena by opening Robert Mueller's most important files to us, providing us with key evidence that the Special Counsel used to assess whether the President and others obstructed justice or were engaged in other misconduct", Nadler said in a Tuesday statement.

"The department will share the first of these documents with us later today", Nadler, a New York Democrat, said in a statement Monday.

"In light of today's agreement from the Justice Department, it's logical to ask: Is the chairman prepared to rescind his baseless recommendation to hold the attorney general in contempt, or do House Democrats still plan to green-light lawsuits against the attorney general and former White House counsel tomorrow?"

On a separate issue, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform is set to vote Wednesday to determine whether to hold Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt for defying congressional subpoenas regarding a citizenship question in the 2020 census.

Barr has recommended that the White House assert executive privilege in that case, the legal doctrine that permits an administration to hide some of its internal workings.

A ropeline dividing Trump from reporters was unusually close to the president, suggesting a desire to take questions from a press corps eager to talk to the president who'd been overseas in the UK, France and Japan for the better part of three weeks. "I don't leave", Trump told reporters at the White House.

Lawmakers want access to documents from special counsel Robert Mueller's report on his probe into whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice by trying to thwart the investigation, and for McGahn to testify about what took place inside the White House.

"That is very, very serious, and we need to get to the bottom of it and we need to know who participated in that from Russian Federation, from the United States or from both", Hoyer said.

The president said he'll stick out the proceedings, if Democrats go that route.

But two-thirds of voters said the Mueller report did not completely exonerate Trump from wrongdoing compared to 25 percent of respondents who said it did.

Some Democrats have said it's now their responsibility to determine whether Trump acted in a way that would provide grounds for impeachment.

On Monday, the House Judiciary Panel heard from John Dean, a former White House counsel whose testimony helped bring down former President Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal.

Right now, there are around 60 House Democrats who support an inquiry, a number that has risen in recent weeks but is still a fraction of the overall total of House Democrats.

"He's not a credible person", Conway said of Dean.

Dean told the panel there were parallels between Mueller's investigative report, released in redacted form in mid-April, and a 1974 document, known as the Watergate Road Map, in which a special prosecutor laid out the case against Nixon.
