Two major diagnostics companies, Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp, were also impacted by the data breach. AMCA has advised BioReference that AMCA is providing notice to state attorneys general and other state agencies as required by applicable state data breach laws.

No social security numbers, bank account passwords or security questions were compromised in the data breach, which happened between August 1, 2018, and March 30, 2019.

AMCA stored Opko Health customers' credit card and bank account information, email addresses, phone numbers and balance information.

"We must ensure that entities with access to patients' personal, medical and financial information understand their heightened duty to protect both the patient and their sensitive information, and that your company is taking both immediate and long-term steps to mitigate any harm", they added.

In a filing with the SEC, Quest announced last month that a billing system provider, the American Medical Collection Agency, reported on possible unauthorized activities on the online payment page of AMCA.

Opko Health said its affected unit, BioReference Laboratories Inc, suspended collection requests to AMCA since October a year ago, and has asked the vendor to stop working on any pending collection requests involving the company's customers. "AMCA has not yet provided LabCorp a list of the affected LabCorp consumers or more specific information about them", the statement added.

Quest confirmed in its filing that no laboratory results were compromised since no laboratory information was provided to AMCA.

In response to the breach, LabCorp ceased sending new collection requests to AMCA and stopped AMCA from continuing to work on any pending collection requests involving LabCorp consumers. OPKO Health said that the payment card data of at least 6,600 of its patients had been exposed. The company also said it had informed police of the incident.

The security officials at Inmediata halted the website temporarily and contacted a digital forensic firm to investigate the incident.

AMCA did not provide Quest with detailed or complete information on the breach, including who may have been affected, according to Quest.
