Trump says he would ‘FIX’ and 'REBRAND’ Boeing in tweet Trump says he would ‘FIX’ and 'REBRAND’ Boeing in tweet

Amid the ongoing Boeing 737 MAX scandal, the company's share price has plummeted and global fleets of the problematic plane are grounded, but one unlikely source has offered some advice: Donald Trump.

Trump tweeted Monday that if he were in charge of Boeing, he would "FIX" the plane, "add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name".

Mr. Trump added, "No product has suffered like this one". But again, what the hell do I know?'

Two days after the plane went down, he tweeted that these days jetliners are "becoming far too complex to fly".

Airlines are being forced to ground their planes longer than expected after Boeing and the FAA said the company needed more time to complete changes to a flight-control system suspected of playing a role in the recent crashes.

Both flights involved American planemaker Boeing's new 737 Max model; the crashes appear to involve the model's anti-stalling software.

As The Post reported last month, Boeing and the USA government have historically relied upon one another, "together creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, outfitting the United States with top military aircraft and supplying planes worldwide to allow the growth of passenger air travel and to boost U.S. exports".

The US and other countries, including Australia, grounded Boeing's 737 MAX planes in mid-March after deadly crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia.

Others made light of the president's remarks, and a few staunch supporters rushed to Trump's defense.

"The World Trade Organisation finds that the European Union subsidies to Airbus has adversely impacted the United States, which will now put Tariffs on $11 billion of EU products!" Planes run fullest during June, July and August, when airlines earn the most revenue per available seat mile, according to U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at the debut of the Boeing South Carolina Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner in North Charleston, South Carolina, U.S., February 17, 2017. "Based upon our ongoing work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing, we are highly confident that the MAX will be recertified prior to this time (August 19)", he said.

American Airlines has said it will cancel flights using the aircraft until mid-August, leading to a reworking of its summer schedule.
