Barr says he'll release redacted Mueller report 'within a week'

Redacted Mueller report to be released within a week Donald Trump says he has not read 'total waste of time' Mueller report

Attorney General William Barr told a House panel on Tuesday that he put together a team to look at how the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian interference started in the summer of 2016.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also would be eligible, Barr said, and the attorney general announced something else likely to please Graham, too: another forthcoming report about investigators' use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act in the Russian Federation investigation.

Barr also dismissed accusations that he was hasty to release the March 24 letter outlining the conclusions of the report.

Specifically, Barr is looking into the standard for opening counterintelligence investigations.

Barr released a four-page letter summarizing the report two days later and said he would release a redacted version of the full report by mid-April, "if not sooner".

The chairman of the subcommittee, Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano of NY, also said there were unanswered questions, including "serious concerns about the process by which you formulated your letter; and uncertainty about when we can expect to see the full report".

President Donald Trump has claimed Mueller's report exonerated him, but Barr has said that wasn't accurate, although the attorney general said Mueller did not conclude the president had committed a crime.

"I'm glad to talk to Chairman Nadler and Chairman Graham as to whether they feel they need more information and if there's a way we can accommodate that", Barr said.

Attorney General William Barr has assembled a team to review controversial counterintelligence decisions made by Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, including actions taken during the probe of the Trump campaign in the summer of 2016, according to a person familiar with the matter.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said he appreciated the desire of the Electronic Privacy Information Center to obtain the Mueller report, a document detailing what he described as an "extremely important subject matter to the nation".

"I haven't seen the referrals yet from Congressman Nunes, but obviously if there is a predicate for an investigation it will be conducted", Barr said.

In particular, Barr has expressed an interest in the initial Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants that allowed surveillance of Trump's campaign to take place. "I don't know if people should get their hopes up for the full Mueller report, because based on Barr's letter, there's probably not going to be a chapter in there called 'Impeachable Stuff.'" Still, Roy Wood Jr. had a solution for people still holding out hope for really damning news.

Barr said he did not believe the evidence in the report was sufficient to prove the president had obstructed justice.
