Apart from the two dropped catches off Abu Jayed in the third over, the raw Bangladesh seamers, with only 17 Tests between, them were unable to make full use of the green strip.

"Will [Young] has been in our Test squad as batting cover for the past two series and he should be confident following some strong performances domestically and for New Zealand A", Stead said.

The first two days of the match were washed out. Wagner followed his 4-28 with 5-45 in the second innings to be the decisive factor of the match.

The Bangladesh openers, however, proved that appearances can be deceptive, with neither Trent Boult nor Tim Southee able to generate any appreciable assistance from conditions apparently tailor-made for swing and seam. Eventually they were bowled out for 209.

Only captain Mahmudullah Riyad and Mohammed Mithun, who scored 67 and 47 respectively, offered serious resistance.

Bangladesh had resumed on 80 for three, still requiring another 141 runs to make New Zealand bat again after the hosts' first innings of 432 for six declared with Ross Taylor (200) scoring his 18th century and Henry Nicholls (107) his fifth.

Mominul Haque followed for 10 and Shadman Islam for 29 leaving Mohammad Mithun on 25 with Soumya Sarkar not out 12.

The Wagner short balls were little more than waist height with the wickets coming from injudicious pull shots or inessential flicks down the left side.

Wagner then nabbed Taijul Islam with a short ball that hit the gloves and floated to silly point for an easy catch by Tom Latham.

The New Zealand board took to twitter to inform about the skipper's injury, "Injury update: Kane Williamson will not return to the field today as he rests his left shoulder ahead of further investigation (MRI scan) tomorrow morning".

Williamson departed to have scans on a shoulder and pectoral injury - sustained when he fell in the field - with New Zealand 180-3.

New Zealand were 275/3 midway between lunch and tea on the fourth day to lead Bangladesh by 64 on the first innings.

The Black Caps have won the second Test, and the series, against Bangladesh at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Bangladesh could have made the flawless start to the day, only for Mahmudullah and Shadman Islam to put down Taylor on 20 off Abu Jayed (3-94).
