Future Samsung smartphones may go camera-less, here's how

Samsung is considering to put a camera in the S Pen Samsung Found A Genuinely Good Reason To Use A Stupid Stylus

As per the patent, Samsung's advanced stylus will also include a battery and a prism in the optical path for conversion of signals. According to the concept, a camera lens will be located at the rear end of the pen, where a push button is now located.

Does this mean well see a Samsung Galaxy Note10 with a camera in the S-Pen? Well, to solve this issue Samsung could be implementing a camera inside its S Pen.

Patently Mobile brought this patent to the blogosphere's attention after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted it.

A newly granted Samsung patent has revealed an S-Pen with a camera. The current S Pen is fitted with a clicker that lets you take snaps with the Note 9. Although it is hard to digest that the upcoming Galaxy Note device will be missing the selfie camera and as per a guess, the S Pen has to be connected with the smartphone while taking a selfie so that even the user can have a preview of the same. By doing this, the company opens the door for a proper full-screen display without a notch or punch-hole design. However, I would imagine that video calls would be mildly annoying via the S-Pen camera, as you'd need to hold the stylus up for the duration of the call.

Another possibility is that the stylus camera could be used for productivity tasks, such as optical text recognition. The pen in the Galaxy Note has thus become a truly unique selling point that other manufacturers can not offer - not a bad thing in times of interchangeable smartphone designs. Additionally, the pen would offer more versatility when taking photos, letting users get into positions that would be awkward if holding a phone. Now you might be wondering how would the user take a selfie?

It's unclear if/when we can expect this tech in a new smartphone (although the patent mentions support for notebooks and monitors too).
