30 years of the Mazda MX-5 Miata

Orange you sad Mazda’s MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition is sold out 30 years of the Mazda MX-5 Miata

In fact, the original Miata made its global debut at the 1989 Chicago show, making the launch of this new version at this year's show even more poignant.

In 1989, Mazda changed the sports vehicle landscape when it debuted the MX-5 Miata at the Chicago Auto Show. Of course, it wouldn't be a special edition motor vehicle without a badge that sets it apart from its less special stablemates and the 30th Anniversary MX-5 is no different.

Speaking of the interior, it's been given a smattering of orange accents - the Recaro seats, interior door trim, dash, steering wheel, air vents, and gear shifter have all been given an orange hit.

The car's unveiling was in Chicago since that was where the original Miata made its debut in 1989; fittingly, the Racing Orange paint is created to evoke "the breaking dawn of an exciting new day".

After 30 years and more than 1 million units sold, Mazda feels that the MX-5 has grown into more than simply Mazda's creation. In addition, the MX-5 30 Anniversary is also equipped with Rays ZE40 RS30 forged aluminum alloy wheel that were specially developed just for this particular model. Also, each 30th Anniversary Edition Miata will get a badge, located on the driver's-side quarter-panel ahead of the rear wheel, that denotes the serial number of the auto.

The MX-5 30th Anniversary is based on the current 2.0-litre ND, which means it's powered by the new SkyActiv-G engine which develops 181bhp and revs to 7500rpm.

If you're keen on ordering one of these, you'll need to act fast.

The 30th Anniversary softtop starts at $35,915, with the hardtop RF carrying a $2600 premium at $38,515. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the 30th Anniversary model. The only options are whether you get a retractable top or soft top model and if you choose manual or automatic transmission. The order books open today, with prospective owners able to place their order on a special website with a deposit of $500.
