Sixers trade Fultz to Magic

Ariana Grande PM Roundup Ariana Grande Markelle Fultz Traded NBA Trade Deadline Analysis

Former Husky Markelle Fultz gets a desperately needed fresh start with his trade to the Orlando Magic.

Sixers guard and former first overall draft pick Markelle Fultz reportedly is headed to the Magic.

The 76ers are giving up on the 2017 No. 1-overall pick, sending him to Orlando in exchange for shooting guard Jonathon Simmons, a first-round pick (via the Thunder) and a second-round pick, ESPN reported.

With his trade Wednesday for Tobias Harris, Brand clarified the Sixers' window. Fultz lost his starting spot in the rotation when the Sixers traded for Jimmy Butler. He's owed $5.7 million next season if the Sixers decide to keep him.

If not, Fultz will remain a part of the team for the foreseeable future... His present isn't especially clear either. In 19 games this season, he is averaging 8.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He may very well forge a good National Basketball Association career for himself, but it made little sense for Brand to bargain that he'd do so in Philadelphia.

On the morning of June 17, 2017, the Sixers put Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox through a pre-draft workout at their Camden, N.J., practice facility. Simmons is mostly a bench player, so recouping the draft picks will be big for Philly.

Markelle Fultz is still searching for his shot. His weird off-court saga, the mysterious disappearance of his jump shot, subsequent injury woes and the fact he'd become a poor fit next to ball-dominant Ben Simmons had made this a tenuous situation.

Although the chances of Fultz becoming a productive player for the Sixers had to be considered extremely slim, it is worth noting that Fultz developing into a role player would have been a nice consolation prize at this point. And by adding Simmons, he made a team that now has legitimate championship aspirations better.
