Nick Foles Informs Eagles He'll Void Option For 2019

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has told the team he is voiding his option for the 2019 season, according to ESPN. Now that Foles' $21 million salary in 2019 has come off the books by him declining his option, the Eagles have around $11 million in salary cap space.

The move was expected.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen had a sentiment similar to Cole's earlier in the week, reporting that Philly would prefer to trade Foles to the Jacksonville Jaguars as opposed to an NFC East foe. Those two moves give the Eagles a fairly easy path to the $15 million they would need right there. The price for Foles is expected to be around a third-round pick, according to Schefter. Foles opted out of the option for $2 million. Otherwise, Foles could reach unrestricted free agency and possibly sign with a team in Philadelphia's division, such as the Washington Redskins or New York Giants.

The Eagles have publicly committed to Carson Wentz as their starting QB moving forward.

"The Eagles believe there's a strong chance the Giants will part ways with Manning and attempt to sign Foles if Foles hits the market", writes Cole.

The Eagles could also decide to tag Foles and simply keep him, particularly if the team has lingering questions about Wentz's ability to stay healthy.

Reports over Super Bowl weekend indicated the Eagles intend to franchise tag Foles, who is set to become a free agent this offseason otherwise. The Eagles can send him to a team they won't have to face almost as often. "He was accused of playing favorites and resisting certain concepts because he viewed them as "[Nick] Foles stuff".

"It hasn't been the easiest previous year for me on the physical level, just battling the injuries, but then just personally going through it, sitting on the sideline and then playing and then sitting on the sideline again", Wentz said.

An anonymous report, in which Wentz was called "selfish", won't impact the team's decision.
