The team that went to Atlanta instead, the Los Angeles Rams, got smothered by the New England Patriots in a 13-3 loss at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Super Bowl LIII was a clunker for the ages, with the vaunted Los Angeles Rams offense falling flat on its face and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady showing his age. It's unclear if the uneventful game contributed to the low ratings, but The Hollywood Reporter notes that ratings were roughly 44.9 household rating in overnight metered markets.

With more and more people watching via online streaming, however, the final numbers could look different once the streaming data is taken into account.

The ratings were also an eight percent drop from the last time the big game was shown on CBS. In the Boston market, the Patriots' win drew a 57.4, the highest number for the game in the market since 2015. The full-page layout features a lot of white around the words "Super Bowl?".

Football fans in New Orleans were following that advice on Sunday, throwing the first-ever "Boycott Bowl". That game, Super Bowl 50, drew approximately 111.9 million viewers.

Saints fans protested and partied on Sunday as they vowed to not watch the game. Even the city's newspaper, the Times-Picayune, ignored the Super Bowl.
