Mario Kart Tour was supposed to be made available on smartphones in March of 2019, but it has now been announced that the release date has been pushed back a bit. Nintendo is reportedly planning to release a smaller, more portable Nintendo Switch at some point this year, potentially lowering the cost of the console in the process and making it easier for even more people to buy one.

The Switch's current lifetime total is 32.27 million, and since it only came out two years ago that means it's now beating the sales trajectories of not just the Xbox 360 but every PlayStation console ever.

Ultimate is also on track to become the best-selling entry in the series.

If the latest report from Japanese publication Nikkei is true, Nintendo will be taking a big step in that direction in 2019.

That's in large part thanks to Super Smash Bros. It was the first time that Mario had been playable on another game platform.

"In the smart-device business, Mario Kart Tour was scheduled to be released this fiscal year, but in order to improve quality of the application and expand the content offerings after launch, the release date has been moved to summer 2019".

With the Nintendo Switch hitting 32.27 million units it is just behind the Nintendo 64's lifetime sales figure of 32.93 million, so we can expect that for its next financial results report.
