Google reveals the shutdown date for Google

Google will officially close Goodbye Google
Melba Vasquez | 01 February, 2019, 23:59

Although the company could have opted for April 1, it would seem Google prefers the service is shuttered the following day and not on April Fools' Day.

Google will be taking Google+ accounts and pages offline starting from April 2, 2019. Keep in mind that any photos and videos that are backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.

On April 2nd, the search giant will delete all the user data from Google+ except Google Notes, which will be kept for legal reasons.

"If you've used Google+ for comments on your own or other sites, this feature will be removed from Blogger by February 4th and other sites by March 7th", the company added in a support page.

In October previous year, Google had announced shutting down the social networking platform after its engineers found the APIs to be "challenging to develop and maintain".

Google announced the impending demise of Google+ in October 2018, seven years after it first launched.

"From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place". In the coming weeks, you will not be able to sign into websites with Google + and may be replaced with a Google sign in button.

While April 2 is the drop-dead date for profiles, the wind-down of Google+ will start pretty soon. The entire process will take a few months, and some content may remain during this period. For example, beginning February 4, if you have a personal Google+ account, you will no longer be able to create Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events.

Google+ accounts for G Suite customers will remain active and will receive new features along with an interface overhaul in the near future. Also, your users will no longer be able to create public communities outside your domain. Going forward, upon cancellation of G Suite, all G Suite customers' content will be flagged for deletion.

From7th March, third-party sites will also lose their ability to use Google+ as a comment login. Today, the Mountain View company confirmed Google+ for consumer accounts is shutting down on April 2, 2019.
