Developer code Steve Troughton-Smith has discovered that the beta version of iOS 12.2 refers to four new iPad configurations that don't include Face ID, assuming that they will use Touch ID and, therefore, are a more traditional design. Face ID might just be a tad bit too costly for Apple to put on its lower-cost models. Slimmer bezels and Face ID would probably only make the low-priced iPads more expensive, and Apple is most likely trying to keep them within reach of budget-conscious consumers as much as possible. The code suggests these models will not have Face ID, while the iPod touch won't have Touch ID either. The Verge points out that the 6th-gen iPod Touch is identified as "iPod 7,1", meaning this iPod is likely something completely new. The code doesn't contain information on exactly what's new, it appears it also won't have Face ID. According to reports, these could be variants of the rumored iPad mini 5 and two larger iPads with 10-inch displays targeted toward the budget-conscious market. The latter makes sense, as the range is long overdue an update. For the last few months we've heard rumors about a new iPad Mini for 2019, while word of a new iPod Touch is a surprise for many. A report last week found running ioS 12 had recently received certification from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). This leads us to believe that Apple is indeed getting ready to launch a new music playing device and that it's simply waiting for the right time to do it. As always, if you have anything to share, feel free to sound them off in the comments section below!
