And these two pieces of information only add up to suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S10 could be the company's first to sport 1TB inbuilt storage.

The Korean company announced Tuesday that it's started mass producing 1-terabyte embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS), doubling its previous generation of smartphone storage while maintaining the same footprint - an innovation Samsung has claimed is an industry first.

"The 1TB eUFS is expected to play a critical role in bringing a more notebook-like user experience to the next generation of mobile devices", said Samsung.

It is important to remember here that right now Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 and Apple's iPhone XS Max at top spec are the only flagship phones that offer even half that storage capacity internally that this new drive offers.

On the topic of performance, Samsung says that a new 1TB eUFS 2.1 storage chip can transfer data at up to 1,000 megabytes per second (MB/s), twice as fast as a typical SATA SSD.

For an idea of just how much storage this is, Samsung says it'll be enough to store 260 10-minute 4K videos. This will allow for a huge increase in the storage capacities of smartphones and other compact devices, without the need for removable memory cards. The chip promises speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s which is nearly twice the sequential read speed of a conventional 2.5-inch SATA SSD.

Shipping a smartphone with 1TB of storage inside might seem like overkill, especially when we are increasingly streaming our entertainment rather than storing it locally.

In Samsung's marketing speak, random writes are "500 times faster than a high-performance microSD card".
