The BJP has also come out reacting to the developments alleging that the "hacking horror show" in London was organised by Congress and the Grand Old Party had begun looking for an excuse for its likely defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Shuja, who claims to be part of the team that designed EVMs used in India, alleged that the Congress lost 210 seats in 2014 general election "due to tampering". "The act of Mr Shuja is violative of IPC, particularly its section 505 (1) (b)", the EC said. A democracy will only be strengthened when the election exercise is conducted fairly.

"It was a Congress-sponsored conspiracy created to defame Indian democracy and its Election Commission", Prasad said.

Prasad also rubbished hacker Shuja's claims that BJP leader Gopinath Munde was "murdered" because he knew the "truth of the EVMs".

Shuja claimed that telecom giant Reliance Jio had helped the BJP hack the EVMs.

The Electronic Corporation of India Limited has denied Syed Shuja's claim that he worked with the organisation. Following which they allegedly devised a way to bypass the security protocols of the device and access it remotely via radio frequencies through a sophisticated graphite based military grade modulator, operating on spectrum frequencies that are only accessible to the military. We did give them a possible solution which they were not able to use: "they did not participate in the challenge thrown by the (poll panel) to hack EVMs (in 2018)".

Shuja claimed that he and "his team" had realised the machines used in the 2014 polls were emitting signals - which they were not supposed to do - and had tried to blackmail BJP leaders in Hyderabad with the information. "Insanity in the Congress party is increasingly becoming contagious", said the Minister, who is in the USA for medical check up.

He said the BJP would have won the recent Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections if his team hadn't intercepted the alleged attempts by the saffron party to hack the "transmissions" in these states.

Add to that the fact that Shuja has failed to provide any proof to substantiate his claims also works against him.

He, however, said that since the General Elections are approaching therefore at least the Election Commission should allow 50 percent VVPAT slips per constituency be randomly counted to ensure there is no electoral rigging. "Otherwise, the BJP would have swept", he claimed.

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Tuesday demanded a probe into the charges made by a self-proclaimed US-based cyber expert, terming them as "very serious" as they concern the survival of democracy in India.

He explained how he and his team - comprising of 11 other engineers - were first apparently approached in 2013 to find vulnerabilities in current generation EVMs and to come up with a prototype for a future voting machine that can not be hacked - an offer that Shuja and his team accepted.
