The two players appeared on popular Indian TV show Koffee with Karan, during which Pandya said he emulated the "West Indies and black culture", which he credited for teaching him just how to treat women.

"We definitely, as the Indian cricket team, don't support views like that".

The BCCI have asked Pandya and KL Rahul - who was also part of the show - to explain their comments, with Pandya apologising on social media soon after.

Australia announced their eleven on Friday, with Peter Siddle set to play his first ODI in eight years.

Reacting, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli also said their statements were unacceptable.

"In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments".

After losing the Test series in convincing fashion even if the scoreline only read 2-1, Australia will be desperate to compete hard in the one-day series now although their form in this format of the game is poor in recent times also.

As per the new BCCI constitution, the power to sanction players for indiscipline or misconduct is to rest with the BCCI's Apex Council.

Kohli added that the two players "have understood the magnitude of what's happened".

The captain has already made it clear that as a side, the Indian team has nothing to do with the comments made by the duo and that his side will stick to its own plans irrespective of the outcome. In the latest development, a BCCI source said Rahul was not considered for selection while Pandya will not feature at least in the game on Saturday, reports PTI. "It does nothing to the spirit that we've been able to create within the change room and these are purely individual opinions and something as I said which is inappropriate". The massive outrage after the interview might prompt the Indian cricket board to bar players from such appearances on non-cricket show.

The skipper said the team is buoyed with what it achieved in the Test series and the World Cup will only inspire it afresh for the challenges ahead. The cricketers, who have been in the eye of a storm following their sexist remarks on "Koffee with Karan", have been ruled out of the ODI series starting on Saturday though a final decision on whether they will return home or not immediately hasn't yet been taken.

"All these external factors are not going to derail our motivation or the preparation for the World Cup".
