Top Shelf Hockey, which represents the 34-year-old winger from Brampton, Ont., put out a statement to announce his decision on Friday.

Nash missed the final 12 games of the regular season for the Bruins in 2017-18 because of a concussion sustained in March. "Under the advice of his medical team, the risk of further brain injury is far too great if Rick returns to play". Rick would like to thank everyone who has supported him during this hard period.
He had 34 points (21 goals, 13 assists) in 71 games with Boston and the Rangers in 2017-18, including six points (three goals, three assists) in 11 games after he was acquired February 25 in a trade for forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and two draft picks.
Nash was drafted first overall in 2002 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he spent nine seasons. He also had 368 assists in 1,060 career games.
Correction - January 11, 2019: The headline was edited from a previous version that misspelled Rick Nash's given name. He led the National Hockey League with 41 goals in 2003-04 and was a six-time All-Star.

He is the Blue Jackets' all-time leader in games (674), goals (289), assists (258), points (547), even-strength goals (192), power-play goals (83), shorthanded goals (14), game-winning goals (44) and shots (2,278).
