Ramsey poised to sign five-year, €40m Juventus deal

Noah Ferguson | 10 January, 2019, 19:58

Juventus are leading the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old hasn't always covered himself in glory during his 11 years at the Emirates but the most disappointing thing about losing the player will be the fact it is a free transfer.

According to The Guardian, Ramsey will become Juventus' second-highest earner behind Cristiano Ronaldo by signing a five-year deal worth £140,000 ($179,000) a week (£7.2m a season).

The former Wales captain has been promised a significant role in the club implying that he is likely to be a central figure in a three man midfield preferred by Max Allegri.

As a result, he has been allowed to discuss terms with various clubs this January, including Juve, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, about a possible move in the summer.

Juventus are nine points clear at the top of Serie A and are expected to win their eighth straight league title. He is likely to replace one of Emre Can, Rodrigo Bentancur and Sami Khedira, with the latter possibly leaving the club in the summer. Ramsey joined Arsenal in 2008 from Cardiff City for a fee of around £4.8 million. He has played 252 top-flight games for the Gunners, scoring 52 goals. The Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, also had major reservations about both Özil and Ramsey fitting into his plans and the style he wants to play.

Meanwhile, European football expert Andy Brassel claims Juventus are willing to bide their time to land Ramsey.
