Afghan Taliban Cancel Peace Talks with US Citing 'Agenda Disagreement'
Taliban, US to sit down to peace talks

A fourth round of talks with United States officials in Qatar this week was called off by the Taliban due to an "agenda disagreement" over the involvement of Afghan officials.
"The US officials insisted that the Taliban should meet the Afghan authorities in Qatar and both sides were in disagreement over declaring a ceasefire in 2019", a Taliban source toldReuters.
Talks had been planned for two days starting Wednesday in Qatar, senior Taliban members earlier told Reuters.
In 2001, Iran worked with the United States to help set up a new Afghan government to replace the Taliban, which had been toppled by a US -led military campaign following al Qaeda's September 11 attacks on USA cities.
The Taliban also called off a meeting with USA officials in Saudi Arabia earlier this week because of Riyadh's insistence on bringing the Western-backed Afghan government to the negotiating table. When asked if Pakistan was playing its role to push the Taliban to establish contact with the Kabul government, Umar Daudzai, who holds additional charge as President Ashraf Ghani's special adviser on reconciliation affairs, told Arab News in an exclusive interview: "They [Pakistan] say that and there are signs that they are doing it".
