Instagram Accidentally Pushed An Update To Make Your Feed Horizontal

Melba Vasquez | 28 December, 2018, 19:27

Even more fortunate, perhaps, is that Instagram has now seen how universally hated this new interface would be if it were actually implemented. Millions of users of the social network received an update today that implemented this system, much to the umbrage of the vocal majority.

Due to some serious blowback from users, Instagram appears to have quickly reverted to the standard vertical feed for those who were given the new horizontal feed. Instead, Instagram's been considering having people scroll side to side or tap to go through their Instagram feed.

When Instagram made a decision to roll out a new update today, people were quick to get in their feelings about the changes.

The momentary change sparked widespread outrage among users on Twitter, with several comparing it to Snapchat's unpopular redesign. "We apologize for any confusion" an Instagram spokesperson tells TechCrunch.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri called the move a "small test" that went "broader than they expected".

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

The following video shows how the tap-to-advance in the feed worked on Instagram.

He said the new feature was supposed to be a small test and not widely launch on multiple Instagram accounts. The old design was still available through Instagram.com, however, allowing you to scroll up and down, in addition to the Explore page on the app.

Many social media users weren't happy about the abrupt change and took to Twitter to voice their complaints. To revert back to the previous version of Instagram, simply restart the app. Stop this chaos and bring back the chronological news feed.
