Don’t worry, that big change to Instagram wasn’t permanent

Melba Vasquez | 27 December, 2018, 20:01

Regardless, with such a considerable change, many users have taken to Twitter to express their disapproval of the Instagram update, as well as appreciation for the quick turnaround.

In June 2018, The Verge reported that Instagram had 1 billion users worldwide, an increase in 200 million from its census of 800 million the previous year.

The feed design has been altered from the standard vertical scrolling to a new horizontal, "story"-like design".

It's unclear just how many people have the new feed, but the Independent reports that Instagram users around the world have received it. When a user attempts to scroll down on the app, as they have always been able to do, a gray screen appears that explains that the change is "Introducing a new way to move through posts".

Some Internet users have found the bright side to the Instagram update debacle, however.

Within minutes the test was rolled back, and the head of Instagram explained that the broad release had been a mistake.

Mosseri confirmed that the update should be cleared for everyone, and to just restart your app if you were still seeing it. And while we're at it, let's go ahead and bring back a chronological feed.

The Facebook-owned social network usually announces major updates with a blog post.

Twitter soon became a mix of outrage over the change and confusion that it went bye-bye so quickly.

Instagram has apologised after a test feature was accidentally rolled out to millions of people using its app. Once they find the Instagram app there and tap it they should choose to uninstall it, according to Android Police. It appears as though the app has been changed globally, for a majority of users.
