It may be recalled that there were rumors surrounding upgraded Airpods being planned for this year but it never got released during the Apple launches scheduled for this year.

What's new with Apple wireless headphones doesn't end there.

In a note seen by Apple Insider, the analyst also claimed another product update that involved a more substantial redesign of the AirPods is now on track to launch in early 2020.

In short, AirPods appear to be yet another Apple product that was mocked early on before going on to becoming a legitimate success. Mr. Kuo, of TF International Securities, believes the case will finally arrive next year.

Kuo also said that the next AirPods model will come with upgraded Bluetooth specs. The AirPods 2 will also likely come with noise cancellation technology for a more distraction-free listening experience. Apple already "announced" such a case a year ago, along with the AirPower wireless charging mat.

Though Apple's AirPods were initially mocked due to a somewhat funky design, demand for the company's wireless earbuds has continued to grow impressively with each passing month. If this turns out to be true, then owners of the first-generation wireless earphones won't have to purchase the new upgraded version just to take advantage of the wireless charging support. As it is, the current gen AirPods went in for some criticism for its looks when first launched back in 2016. Kuo claims the upgraded case will have a new "rigid-flex board" internal component, redesigned hinges, and support for better thermal management.

While iPhone sales might be slowing down, Kuo expects AirPods shipments to grow from 16 million units in 2017 to well over 100 million units by 2021.
