Sixty-two percent (62%) of Republicans are more likely to vote because of the Kavanaugh controversy, compared to 54% of Democrats and 46% of voters not affiliated with either major political party.

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has said he's starting his role without bitterness following his bruising confirmation process. Republicans thought they would finally overturn the law as the court had eight justices appointed by Republican presidents.

Mr Kavanaugh already has been at the Supreme Court preparing for his first day on the bench Tuesday. A poll released yesterday by Politico found that, nationally, Republican enthusiasm for voting has risen but Democratic zeal got a bigger boost - 77 percent of Democrats said they are "very motivated" to vote, compared with 68 percent of Republicans.

The other question is whether Trump's personal tax returns would be enough to satisfy the base or would there be a push to also go after Trump's corporate returns, something that could shed more light on the President's business dealings but could also lead to more cries of partisanship.

He added: "We will not let mob behavior drown out all the Americans who want to legitimately participate in the policy-making process".

The Kavanaugh confirmation has blown open the midterm elections from being a national referendum on Trump's stewardship to a raw emotional discussion over the lack of women in power and how to handle sexual misconduct allegations.

On Thursday, McConnell cited recent statements by 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former Attorney General Eric Holder.

McConnell described demonstrators "literally storming the steps" of the Capitol, and pointedly noted that these activities followed last year's shooting of GOP lawmakers at a morning baseball practice.

James Hodgkinson, who was killed at the scene by officers, was infuriated by President Donald Trump's election, his widow has said.

"If an opening comes in the a year ago of President Trump's term, and the primary process has started, we'll wait until the next election", Graham said in remarks at the Atlantic Festival last week.

But Republican Sen. Richard Shelby said that health care may not be as much of a victor as Democrats think, noting that some Senate races have begun trending in the GOP's direction since the Kavanaugh fight.
