Trump apologizes to Kavanaugh during swearing-in ceremony

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday approved Brett Kavanaugh Donald Trump's pick for the US Supreme Court Pres. Trump Hosts Ceremonial Swearing-in For Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh

Republican voters are madder about the treatment of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his Senate confirmation process and are more likely to vote in November than Democrats, according to a new national survey.

Republican senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, a vocal supporter of Mr Kavanaugh during his protracted confirmation, says they have their opponents to thank.

But Mr Trump, who last week publicly mocked Ford, continued to stoke political divisions at Monday's ceremony, saying Justice Kavanaugh had been the victim of "a campaign of political and personal destruction based on lies and deception".

Kavanaugh officially took the oath in a more hurried, private procedure Saturday, but the White House version will be a chance for the Trump administration to celebrate publicly.

He said his approval rating has nearly doubled since the Kavanaugh confirmation.

She said: "It saddens me because our judicial system has been viewed as one of the main pillars of our constitutional government". "The Supreme Court is a team of nine, and I will always be a team player". "And with that, I must state that you, sir, under historic scrutiny, were proven innocent", Trump said amidst applause from the audience.

A little more than a month away from the critical ballots that could see the party lose control of the House of Representatives, a new poll finds the Democrats' overall lead has dwindled and they are no longer more enthusiastic about voting than Republicans.

Kavanaugh also noted the first group of clerks he's hired as a justice are all women, a first in the history of the Supreme Court.

McConnell declined to weigh in on a possible replacement except to say he or she would not be coming from the ranks of his slim 51-seat Senate majority. "He's a judge's judge, and he's going to fit right in with the way the Supreme Court traditionally operates".

In an interview with The Associated Press, McConnell disputed President Donald Trump's prediction that Alaskans "will never forgive" Murkowski and that she'll "never recover" politically after bucking her party on Kavanaugh.

"The older the voter, the angrier they are about the treatment of both Kavanaugh and Ford, but those 40 and over are madder about how Kavanaugh was treated".

The left's use of uncorroborated sexual assault allegations to block Kavanaugh's path to the Supreme Court, Trump said, violated "every notion of fairness, decency and due process".

He categorically denies all the allegations.

The bitter partisan fight over Kavanaugh's nomination became a firestorm after sexual misconduct allegations emerged involving Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh has also begun moving in to his new office at the Supreme Court, taking over space previously used by Justice Samuel Alito, who moved into offices vacated by Kennedy. One of the two cases the court is hearing Wednesday involves the detention of immigrants, an issue on which Kavanaugh's vote could be key.
